Male polar bears can weigh up to 800kg, and are twice the size of females. This, in addition to the fact that they can measure up to 3 metres long, makes polar bears the largest land carnivore in the world. This bear was very curious and tried several times to get on our boat. We were stuck in the pack for a few days and every time we went out on deck we had to check that he wasn't already on top. But it was an incredible trip far north to Svalbard. The Portuguese man-of-war is a floating hydrozoan. It is actually a colony consisting of four types of polyps: a pneumatophore, or float; dactylozooids, or tentacles; gastrozooids, or feeding zooids; and gonozooids which produce gametes for reproduction. The long tentacles have numerous venomous microscopic nematocysts which deliver a painful sting powerful enough to kill fish and even occasionally humans.

Brown pelican (Pelecanus Occidentals) dives on fish from above and snares them in its bill. Pelican don’t store fish in their pouch, but simply use it to catch them and then tip it back to drain out water and shallow it immediately.

South America’s green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) is, pound for pound, the largest snake in the world. Its cousin, the reticulated python, can reach slightly greater lengths, but the enormous girth of the anaconda makes it almost twice as heavy (250Kg).

One of the eight leopard we saw in the recent Wildlife Photo Tours to Sri Lanka, Panthera pardus kotiya, this sub species was declared an endangered species in the IUCN red list in 2008. There are approximately 40 leopards in Block One of the Yala National Park.

Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculuss) the largest animal ever to live on our planet. They feed almost exclusively on krill, straining huge volumes of ocean water through their baleen plates (which are like the teeth of a comb). Some of the biggest individuals may eat up to 6 tons of krill in 1 day.

The male like the one in the picture are more colorful with gold head and red neck.
