EUROPEAN WILDLIFE of POLAND

More

A real full immersion in relaxing primary ecosystems, in one of the best-preserved forests of the temperate European lowlands. Known worldwide for vast and virgin spaces, it is the ideal nesting ground for 120 species of birds, other than the largest population of the property’s iconic species : the Wisent or European bison (Bison bonasus) Europe’s largest herbivore, elks and red deers. We’ll dedicate as much time as possible to observation and photography, from sunrise to sunset and beyond.
The European oldest and largest area of primary forest includes both conifers and broadleaved trees; it is made up of secular oaks, elms, lime trees and many other varieties. Saved from deforestation and rich in timber, this forest has become home to rare species of birds, hundreds of insects and thousands of mushrooms. It is the natural shelter for elusive mammals such as wolves and lynxes, difficult to depict due to their shyness and suspiciousness. This immense primary forest covers a total area of 141,885 hectares and has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List; it is also recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve.

We will move by 4×4 private car and we’ll be guided by a skilled local guide speaking English. Two days are dedicated to photography from the hides, situated in carefully selected locations and ideally camouflaged; the target species will be the White-Tailed eagles, the largest bird of prex in Poland. Alongside eagles, there are great photographic opportunities with ravens and buzzards; fox shows up quite often. The other days are organized as a safari, with the aim of good encounters with wild mammals and other birds inside the forest.

The group size is limited to max 7 participants, who will be divided into smaller teams. Each team will go to different hides and vehicles. This will give us plenty of space and time to enjoy the encounters and to photograph, making our best with the guidance and assistance of Franco Banfi.
